Overview
The Publications and Public Relations (PPR) section at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is an authorized source for up-to-date information about various activities in the area of academics, research and development, etc. of the Institute.
The PPR section is broadly involved in the following areas of work:
Media Liaisoning
The office is the single point of contact for any media personnel interested in covering the Institute. The section answers media queries, sends out press invitations and issues press releases on a regular basis, besides organizing press conferences and interviews with faculty, students or the Institute's functionaries, as and when required.
Event Management
The PPR section is responsible for organizing institute-level functions such as the Convocation, Foundation Day, Presentation Ceremony of Awards, Alumni Day, Teachers’ Day and the Institute colloquiums, to mention prominent ones. The section also coordinates visits of high-profile national and international visitors and delegations, including Heads of States, Members of Parliament, corporate honchos and other special guests. Moreover, PPR section provides assistance to internal departments for organizing their events.
Institute Publications
The PPR section also takes care of the preparation and publication of Institute's publications including the Annual Report, the Institute Brochure, the Awardees Brochure (contains profiles of DAA, YAA and Lifetime Achievement Awardees), the Campus Diary (internal newsletter) and the Academic Diary, to mention some. A request for obtaining a copy of any of these publications can be sent to the PPR section at prooffice@iitb.ac.in .
Online Presence
The PPR section is also responsible for managing the Institute's website, uploading and updating the content on it. The social media accounts of IIT Bombay on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are also managed by the PPR section.
Ranking
The PPR section collates all data required for participating in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings.
Co-ordinating with GoI and various ministries
The PPR section ensures the implementation of various programmes initiated by the Government of India and other ministries such as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, International Yoga Day, Fit India Programme, National Education Day, National Unity Day to name a few, and acts as an interface between the Institute and the government.?
Co-ordinating with BoG, Senate, Finance Committee, Building and Works Committee and IFM
The PPR section co-ordinates with various Institute committees on regular basis for updating information such as faculty awards, MoUs, faculty publications, events, workshops and conferences etc.?
General Guidelines for Media
If you are a member of the media interested in interviewing, photographing, audio or video recording any of the faculty, staff, students or functionaries; events; activities or facilities on campus, please e-mail your request to us. Kindly provide your name, organization, contact information, deadline and a detailed description of the story you are working on, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. If you desire to receive media invitations and press releases from IIT Bombay, please email your contact details to us, and we will add you to our mailing list.
Media on Campus
As a part of the Security Guidelines of the Institute, any media professional desirous of visiting IIT Bombay Campus is requested to inform the Public Relations Officer (PRO) about their visit, atleast a day before their arrival (earlier the better). This will enable us to notify the relevant people and also provide the most convenient route to reach the venue, which will save time and ensure that the least inconvenience is caused to a journalist at the time of the visit.
Interviews
As a policy, students, faculty members and Institute functionaries are required to take clearance from the PRO or Deputy Director (Academic and Infrastructural Affairs) or Director, before interacting with media. It is also advisable to keep the PRO informed about any communication with the media and take approval from the competent authority before inviting any journalist to the campus.?

Research dissemination at IIT Bombay
Under the "R&D to Media" initiative, IRCC is partnering with Gubbi Labs to share significant research and development findings with the public through various media channels. Articles with broad social or technological impact will be identified from recent IIT Bombay publications, and internal documents and suggestions from faculty and research scholars are also welcome at rnd2media@ircc.iitb.ac.in. Gubbi Labs editors will collaborate with authors, possibly conducting interviews. Submission guidelines and the workflow diagram are available on Drona > RnD News.
How to Submit
- Notify recent high-impact research or developmental work to rnd2media@ircc.iitb.ac.in.
- Include a brief note explaining the significance for prioritizing interviews.
Article Dissemination
- IRCC will review and approve the final article for structure, consistency, and branding.
- The official press release will be issued by IIT Bombay's PRO.
- Gubbi Labs will publish the article on "Research Matters" and distribute it to various media outlets, including PTI and regional newspapers.
- Selected articles will be printed in periodicals for distribution to visitors and well-wishers.
