National Level OpenHardware—IoT-based Geospatial Hackathon:
The “National Level OpenHardware—IoT based Geospatial Hackathon” is organized jointly by the IIT Bombay-FOSSEE-GIS team (funded through the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), Ministry of Education, Government of India) in partnership with IIT Tirupati's Technology Innovation Hub- the IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India). The Rural Data Research and Analysis (RuDRA) Lab - India’s first HPC-powered data center dedicated for Rural Development, established in the Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (C-TARA), IIT Bombay is the technical partner.
The “National Level OpenHardware-IoT based Geospatial hackathon” is more than just a competition; it is a platform for Indian innovators, creators to come together and pioneer solutions for a brighter future for the mankind with unique IoT, and GIS techniques. This hackathon aims to harness the power of Free/Libre Open-Source Software, Open Source Hardware, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Geographic Information System (GIS) to address some of the world's most pressing challenges. This pan-India hackathon mandates the use of only Indian satellite data; alignment of the ‘problem statement(s)’, ‘theme’, and ‘study area’ based on the Indian context, and at least one SDG (Sustainable Development Goal - United Nations Development Program (UNDP)). Teams are also strongly advised to use/ adopt indigenous Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) technologies like NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation). The final output must comply with the Indian National Geospatial Policy 2022. The winner(s)/ winning team(s) of this coveted national level hackathon shall be eligible (decision made by the IIT Bombay-FOSSEE-GIS/IITTNiF shall be final)? to apply for IIT Bombay-FOSSEE-GIS’s Summer Fellowship/ Internship/ GIS Case Study/ Chanakya-FOSSEE National Geospatial Fellowship, etc., apart from the prize amount.
Skill Development corporations and Entrepreneurship/ Incubation facilities/centres established by the union and state governments across India can also collaborate with us as partners or send in their problem statements which will be given to the participants to evolve GIS-IoT based solutions.
