Opening up your problems helps

I had the problem of overthinking. Given any situation, I would overthink about all the possible consequences and with the fear of negative consequences, I would not make decisions quickly. Also, I had a problem of getting worried about every little thing in life. When I opened up my problems to Anisha Mathews Ma'am in a counselling session, she suggested that I practice 'Disputing worry' method. She very nicely explained to me the different possible solutions to overcome the problem of overthinking.

SWC IITB made me realize I might need Help even though my Academics may seem Fine to the outside world.

I had already had a bout with anxiety during JEE Mains and Advanced. That was the first time I had felt anxious about an exam in my life and I didn’t even have any pressure from my family. Somehow I did better than I expected in JEE and I was on a high on entering IITB, with the thought that I am easily going to ace whatever challenges IIT throws at me. My first semester was filled with extra-currics like many at IIT B, but the academic results weren’t as great as I had expected them to be.

Health isn't just about what you eat it's about what you are Thinking or Feeling too.

Getting into IITB has been one of the major turning points of my life professionally as well as personally. Coming from very small town of kolkata and being a shy and an introvert person, life suddenly threw me into a big platform of opportunities as they say I was in the city of dreams Mumbai. Being overwhelmed by the beguiling nature of the city and the humangous glamour of the campus I got flowed away. Things were going quiet on track unless my innocent heart fell for my classmate.

Counselling is a wonderful experience and best alternative medicine for anxiety and to improve focus

I was in second year of my masters when I came to know about counselling therapy at Student wellness center at IITB. I was suffering from generalised anxiety disorder. Counselling made me realise its okay to let it out!!

A lot of things were going on in my life. Academics were not going as expected and personal life was ruined as well. Since I was not able to share my problems with anyone, I used to stay sad which affected my health too. Then I decided to meet Ms. Hima Anaredy in SWC. The first session itself was so great and I could feel so relieved after talking to her. It took me few more sessions recovering over anxiety and stress, and all of them were so good and connecting. We used to just chat about things, that was great.

SWC helped me climb back from Rock bottom

The year of 2017 was disastrous for me. I think I hit the ultimate rock bottom of my life (yet) during that year. Nothing went right for me in that year - be it academics; I accumulated 4FR grades within two semesters, my grandmother died around mid 2017 (I was not very close, but still I think I was affected howsoever hard I try and deny that fact), I got my first rejection in my love life. This left me pretty devastated and possibly depressed as well? I don't really know.Anyway, this is not a sad story or my lament reminiscing my troubled past.

'JUST MAKING IT' TO ACING IT, WITH COUNSELLORS' SUPPORT

I was recommended by one of my faculty to consult a counsellor at SWC in the first week of October 2018. I had a tough time with working on my semester project due to lack of planning and building a strong foundation for it in the initial stages. Lack of discipline in both handling the project and everyday activities such as sleeping on time, having atleast 3 meals per day made the matters even worse. Initially, Anisha ma'am helped me out with creating a schedule and made sure that I stuck to it.

After the first meeting, I realised that counselling is utterly different than my previous perception

The first time, I visited the Student Wellness Center IIT Bombay when I was in the 4th?year of my PhD. I am writing about my counselling experience during those days. At the end of my PhD degree, I had to deal with lots of professional tasks in a limited time frame such as papers writing, different presentation, dealing with supervisors, and paper rejection etc. Because of this hectic routine, I was in anxiety. Initially, the anxiety level was low, but with the time it increased a lot. ?Due to this, I was unable to sleep properly and work efficiently.

Even darkest night will end and Sun will Rise

This mail is my testimony regarding my counselling experience at IIT Bombay Student Wellness Center. I am grateful to my counsellor Ms. Lavina Lewis for listening to my problems patiently. Counselling was indeed very helpful and also was conducted very systematically. I will last this note by saying that "even?darkest night will end and sun will rise".
