National Geospatial Awards 2024 (Edition 01), Open Source GIS Day celebration

IIT Bombay organized the first-ever Open Source GIS Day celebrations on 15th September and bestowed honour to the winners/ winning organization of the National Geospatial Awards 2024 (Edition 01). Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay distributed the awards.

The National Geospatial Awards 2024 (Edition 01) is an initiative of the FOSSEE (GIS) project, IIT Bombay organized under the aegis of the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), Ministry of Education, Government of India. The key objectives of the 'National Geospatial Awards 2024' are to honour the enablers of Geospatial Technology in India, cutting across professions (Institutions, Faculty, Industry professionals, Individuals, etc).

As a part of IIT Bombay FOSSEE GIS’s National Geospatial Awards 2024 (Edition 01), jury awards, Category-wise awards and Special awards were announced and distributed. Some of the key recipients of the awards include Survey of India, National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC-ISRO) Hyderabad, ISRO’s SATNAV Programme, North East Space Application Center (NESAC-ISRO) under the National Geospatial Enabler Award category; Prof. R. D. Garg (IIT Roorkee), Prof. RAAJ Ramasankaran (IIT Bombay), Col. Prof. Karbhari Kale (Vice Chancellor, DBATU) etc. under the National Geospatial Faculty Fellow Category.

Prof. Kannan Moudgalya (P.I. FOSSEE) delivered the keynote address, and Prof. Pennan Chinasamy (Co.P.I. FOSSEE) spoke on the importance of having the Open Source GIS Day. Mr. Mohamed Kasim Khan (National Coordinator - FOSSEE GIS, NMEICT), coordinated the event.
