The Technocraft Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence (TCA2I) at IIT Bombay was inaugurated on April 8, 2022 by Chief Guest Padma Vibhushan Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chancellor of the Homi Bhabha National Institute, Chairman of the Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission, and Member of the Atomic Energy Commission; Director of IIT Bombay Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri; and the donors, Mr. Sudarshan Kumar Saraf and Mr. Sharad Kumar Saraf.
Other esteemed dignitaries present were Director of IIT Jammu Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur; Director, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) Dr. Subrata Rakshit and Vice Admiral (Retd) Mr. Raman Puri, Indian Navy.
TCA2I aims to help academia and industry leverage the immense power of AI/ ML, Data Sciences and Optimisation at IIT Bombay to solve pressing challenges across various sectors, including healthcare, education, automation and cybersecurity. The Center aims to build strong synergy with the defense agencies to provide full-fledged AI/ ML-based solutions to improve the operational efficiency of defense forces. The Center will facilitate projects from all the Departments and Centers of IIT Bombay. TCA21 has already funded projects in medical imaging, supply chain logistics, cybersecurity, beyond 5G technologies, electricity distribution and biological drug discovery undertaken jointly with industry partners.
To start TCA2I, IIT Bombay’s distinguished alumni and donors of the Center - Mr. Sharad Kumar Saraf (B. Tech, Electrical Engineering, 1969) and Mr. Sudarshan Kumar Saraf (B. Tech., Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, 1970) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute in June 2021.
