Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Powai to get a new wing through generous contribution by Sharma family who are school alumni

<p>On September 30, 2021, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay; Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), IIT Powai; Smt Durga Devi Sharma Charitable Trust; and Sharma Foundation, for upgrading the infrastructure of KV IIT Powai by constructing a new wing of approximately 40,000 sq. ft. Mr. Prashant Sharma, trustee of the Smt. Durga Devi Sharma Charitable Trust and Mr. Narottam Sharma, trustee of Sharma Foundation, are both alumni of KV IIT Powai and are dedicating their donation to their late grandfather Pandit Chandrabhan Bhuramal Sharma, a freedom fighter who devoted his life for the welfare of the underprivileged and uneducated masses and was instrumental in helping IIT Bombay’s authorities acquire the land in 1957.</p><p>The MoU signing event included Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay, Prof. Prasanna Mujumdar, Deputy Director, Finance and External Affairs, Prof. S. Sudarshan, Deputy Director, Academic and Infrastructural Affairs, Prof. Vedagiri Perumal, Associate Dean, Infrastructure Planning &amp; Support-1, Prof. Suhas Joshi, Dean, Alumni and Corporate Relations, Mr. Prashant Sharma, Ms. Saudamini Sharma and Mr. Himanshu Sharma, trustees of Smt. Durga Devi Sharma Charitable Trust, Mr. Narottam Sharma and Mr. Chandan Sharma, trustees of Sharma Foundation, and Ms. Mamta Bhattacharya, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Powai.</p><p>While speaking of this partnership, Mr. Prashant Sharma said, “We are happy to get reconnected with the school and delighted that IIT Bombay has given us a chance to sponsor the construction of the new wing, which will provide top-class facilities to students in KV IIT Powai. It is a very prestigious thing for us, as our grandfather was the owner of the land where IIT Bombay is located. All his family members were students at KV IIT Powai. Therefore, we share a deep attachment with this initiative and I believe this is the perfect sponsorship for the new generation of students.”</p><p>Commenting on the partnership, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay said, “Kendriya Vidyalaya’s mission is to pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education. An educational institution’s greatness is not just defined by its teachers and quality of curriculum but also by the facilities it provides to the students. With Smt. Durga Devi Sharma Charitable Trust and Sharma Foundation’s generous contribution to upgrade the infrastructure of KV IIT Powai, the school has taken one more step forward in its mission.
