<p>On December 5, 2018, Director of IIT Bombay Prof. Devang Khakhar inaugurated a biomethanation plant with a capacity of 2 tonnes per day, a green initiative of alumni of class of 1990. The inauguration ceremony was conducted in the presence of Dean (IPS) Prof. B.V.S. Viswanadham, Dean (ACR) Prof. Suhas Joshi, alumni of class of 1990 Ms. Anu Narasimhan and Mr. Ravi Shankar. Public Health Officer of IIT Bombay Dr. B.S. Patil and other officers and staff of the Institute were also present. </p><p>This state-of-the-art plant treats 2 tonnes of food waste generated from the mess of hostels 12, 13, 14 and nearby hostels per day. This plant helps reduce 25% of LPG cylinder’s requirement for cooking food in the hostels. IIT Bombay remains indebted to alumni of class of 1990 for this wonderful green initiative. This initiative will help address waste disposal and lead to generation of sustainable renewable energy. </p>
